Area guide
Living in Brickell
Brickell is Miami's financial district, on Biscayne Bay just south of the Miami River and Downtown. Brickell Avenue is its spine. Bank and office towers stand at the north end, and residential high-rises run south toward Coconut Grove, many of them on the water.
Brickell Key, a small man-made island at the mouth of the river, is reached by a short bridge from Southeast Eighth Street. The Brickell loop of Metromover runs above the street through the neighborhood. The Brickell Metrorail station connects to Downtown, the airport and the southern suburbs.
Brickell City Centre, the shopping and office complex on South Miami Avenue, sits at the center of the neighborhood near Mary Brickell Village. West Brickell, across Interstate 95, has smaller blocks and older garden apartments.
Most new towers are going up on Brickell Avenue and South Miami Avenue, several of them branded by hotel and fashion names. Others are rising in West Brickell along Southwest Second Avenue.
