Living in Sarasota

Sarasota sits on Sarasota Bay on Florida's Gulf Coast, about an hour south of Tampa. Downtown, new condo towers line the bayfront between the Boulevard of the Arts and Golden Gate Point. Others rise along Main Street and Palm Avenue, the main shopping and restaurant streets.

Golden Gate Point, a short peninsula off downtown, holds small buildings with water on three sides. The John Ringling Causeway crosses the bay to St. Armands Circle and Lido Key, with public beaches on the Gulf. North of downtown, The Bay Park is being built out on the bayfront around the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall.

The existing stock is mostly mid-rise condos built from the 1970s onward. Newer high-rises stand along the bayfront and Ritz-Carlton Drive.

Projects in the current pipeline are mid-rise by South Florida standards. Several include hotel components, and one is on Lido Key itself.
