Area guide
Living in St. Petersburg
St. Petersburg sits at the southern end of the Pinellas peninsula, across Tampa Bay from Tampa. Downtown faces the bay to the east, along a chain of waterfront parks from Coffee Pot Bayou south to Albert Whitted Airport. The St. Pete Pier, rebuilt and reopened in 2020, extends from the end of Second Avenue Northeast.
Beach Drive runs along the parks with restaurants and the Museum of Fine Arts. The Dalí Museum and the Mahaffey Theater sit south of the pier on Bayshore Drive. Central Avenue, the main east-west street, carries the downtown core.
It continues west through the Grand Central District toward the Gulf beaches. The SunRunner bus rapid transit line links downtown to St. Pete Beach.
Many of the existing condo towers line Beach Drive and Bayshore Drive. The current pipeline adds a row of taller towers on Central Avenue and the blocks just north and south of it, several with hotel or design brands.
